Fire causes $30,000 in damages to Iowa City home

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City home sustained $30,000 in damages due to a fire Thursday night, according to authorities.
According to an Iowa City Fire Department news release, crews were called to 2025 Western Rd. at 7:48 p.m. Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the eves of the roof of the ranch-style home. All occupants were out of the home.
Firefighters found a fire in the kitchen and it was extinguished within 16 minutes of arrival, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Iowa City police, Johnson County Ambulance Service and MidAmerican Energy also assisted at the scene.
