Ames man accused of starting fire in Iowa City apartment

IOWA CITY - An Ames man is accused of intentionally starting a fire inside an Iowa City apartment.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 2:49 p.m. Monday, David H. Hernandez, 19, was inside a bedroom at 713 E. Jefferson St. Police said Hernandez lit several posters on fire and left them burning on the floor of the bedroom.
Responding officers found Hernandez at the apartment. Police said he was given a trespass warning for that residence on March 28.
Hernandez faces charges of first-degree arson, a felony, and trespassing. The arson charge carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
