Fire damages southwest Cedar Rapids home

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a house fire Thursday night on the city's southwest side.
According to a department news release, crews were called to 396 16th Ave. SW at 7:18 p.m. for a report of a fire at the residence there. Firefighters were also informed that two people were still inside the home trying to put the fire out.
When crews arrived on the scene, all three adult occupants of the home were out of the residence. Firefighters attacked the fire and brought it under control within 10 minutes.
The home sustained major fire damage to one room, smoke and water damage to the first floor and smoke damage throughout, fire department officials said. No one was injured and the fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the displaced residents.
