CORALVILLE - Two people from Missouri are accused of leading police on a high-speed chase with two young children in the back of their car.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, around 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy attempted to pull over Joshua M. Williams, 30, of Harrisonville, Mo., at the Interstate 80-380 interchange. Authorities said Williams refused to stop and led the deputy on a chase that reached 110 mph.
Williams ran three stop signs and passed on the shoulder twice, the sheriff's office said.
When he was stopped, Williams told the deputy he ran because his passenger - Savanna M. Williams, 23, also of Harrisonville - threatened him. Savanna Williams told the deputy she told the driver not to stop because she has warrants and does not want to go back to prison.
Deputies said two children - ages 2 and 11 months - were in the car during the chase. A marijuana joint also was found in the vehicle, authorities said.
Joshua and Savanna Williams each face two counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. Joshua Williams also faces additional charges of eluding, a felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.
