The Wisconsin Badgers retained the Heartland Trophy with a narrow win over the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis.

Final score: No. 13 Wisconsin (7-2, 4-2) 24, No. 18 Iowa (6-3, 3-3) 22

The Hawkeyes had a chance to tie with a 2-point conversion after a 75-yard Nate Stanley pass to Tyrone Tracy with 3:12 left, but Stanley was drilled just short of the goal line.

Jonathan Taylor rushed for 250 yards on 31 carries and Jack Coan threw two touchdown passes, completing 16 of 25 passes for 173 yards and a pick.

Stanley was 17 of 28 for 208 yards and two TDs.

Wisconsin outgained Iowa 473-295, including 300-87 on the ground.

3:29 4th: Wisconsin 24, Iowa 16

Wisconsin went back to the run and it was a smart move. Jonathan Taylor busted a 36-yard gain on the first play of the drive and totaled 63 yards on six carries. Iowa's defense didn't buckle though, holding the Badgers to a 29-yard Collin Larsh field.

9:27 4th: Wisconsin 21, Iowa 16

Iowa couldn't take full advantage of the turnover as Nate Stanley's third-and-7 pass after a timeout was tipped away. Keith Duncan kicked a 39-yard field goal. Duncan now has a single season school-record 22 field goals.

12:42 4th: Turnover. Matt Hankins dove to pick off Jack Coan, putting the Hawkeyes back in business at the Wisconsin 47.

Suddenly, the Iowa passing game has life. Nate Stanley completed 6 of 7 passes on a nine-play, 75-yard drive, including a 3-yard TD to Nico Ragaini.

2:16 3rd: Wisconsin 21, Iowa 6

Jack Coan and Quintez Cephus exploited the right side of Iowa's secondary for a pivotal TD. Coan hit Cephus for 52 yards on the first play of the drive, then found him again for a 27-yard score. It was a four-play, 86-yard drive. The 52-yarder was Coan's longest completion of the season.

4:24 3rd: The Hawkeyes went three-and-out. Iowa lost 3 yards on a second-down swing to Max Cooper, then picked up only 6 on a third-and-13 underneath pass to Tyler Goodson.

6:11 3rd: Wisconsin passed on five of six plays on this drive, completing three but picking up only 15 total yards.

9:00 3rd: Iowa flipped field position and moved into Wisconsin territory, but stalled. Nate Stanley airmailed a third-and-4 throw out of bounds with a defender in his face. The Hawkeyes are 0 for 5 on third downs.

10:59 3rd: Wisconsin went three-and-out on its first possession of the half. Djimon Colbert pulled down Garrett Groshek 3 yards shy of the line to gain on a third-down completion. Brady Reiff had a tackle for loss on second down.

12:58 3rd: Iowa's first drive of the second half didn't amount to much. Ihmir Smith-Marsette drew a pass interference penalty but three straight runs then came up just short of a first down and the Hawkeyes punted.

The Badgers ended the half churning out a touchdown drive in 6:08. Wisconsin went 76 yards in 13 plays, scoring on Jack Coan's 4-yard play-action pass to Danny Davis. Jonathan Taylor gained 55 yards on seven carries.

6:31 2nd: Wisconsin 7, Iowa 6

A Tyler Goodson 21-yard run moved Iowa to the Wisconsin 29. Mekhi Sargent gained 9 yards on the ground on third-and-12 and the Hawkeyes settled for a 40-yard Keith Duncan field goal, his second of the game.

Touchdown Badgers. Two plays after Michael Ojemudia was flagged for pass interference, receiver Danny Davis took a jet sweep 17 yards to the end zone.

13:46 2nd: Turnover. Nate Stanley mishandled the snap and Jack Sanborn recovered at the Wisconsin 41. It halted a promising drive in which Toren Young ran for 39 yards on five carries.

9:56 1st: Iowa's first play of the game went for a first down as tight end Sam LaPorta picked up 16 yards. Nate Stanley had no time on third-and-3 and was sacked by Matt Henningsen for a loss of 8 to stop the drive.
