The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch will close its museum Monday for over a year while it undergoes its first major renovation in three decades.
The museum is expected to reopen in summer 2026 when the $20.3 million project has been completed. While it is closed, however, its Research Room where researchers access the library’s holdings will remain open, though appointments are “strongly encouraged,” the library said in a news release.
When the renovated venue reopens, it will provide a new window into the public and privates lives of Herbert Hoover and Lou Henry Hoover. Accessible for visitors of all abilities, it will feature 21st century technology to engage audiences.
About 2,200 square feet is being added on the southeast side, creating a larger interior space to welcome touring groups and school field trips, as well as providing a small gathering space, education space and place for programming.
The presidential library and museum, 210 Parkside Dr. in West Branch, will remain open through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
