Ingredion Inc., is planning to spend $48.5 million to upgrade and expand its Cedar Rapids facility, and it has asked the city for incentives.
A fire at the Ingredion facility in southwest Cedar Rapids was still burning Wednesday afternoon, after first being reported Tuesday afternoon.
The industrial fire was reported at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and plant personnel at the southwest Cedar Rapids facility were still working at 11 a.m. Wednesday to “mitigate and extinguish the fire using on-site equipment,” while staying in contact with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
“He was wanting to help others and wanting what's the best for all the employees as a whole,” Mike Moore’s wife said of the union leader’s work during the nearly six-month strike. “ … He really wanted to make sure that everybody was taken care of.”
Union workers voted to ratify a four-year contract with multinational ingredients maker Ingredion, ending a strike that has stretched on for nearly six months against the company’s Cedar Rapids facility.
“We thought we had a deal,” local union president told The Gazette on Thursday.
