CEDAR RAPIDS — As of today, members of Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 100G are entering the fifth month of their strike against cornstarch manufacturer Ingredion. Despite dropping temperatures, a picket line still forms outside the Cedar Rapids facility at First Street SW.
Gazette Social Video Producer Bailey Cichon spoke with picketers, who talked about their frustrations with negotiations thus far, and the corporation, whose spokeswoman via email expressed its continued interest in “reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.” Ingredion has maintained operations during the strike using existing employees and workers from an outside staffing agency.
On Tuesday morning, a union member while picketing was struck by a car, the union said. Cedar Rapids police are investigating.
