Linn-Mar’s Christian Cloyd leads Gazette-area golfers at Class 4A state meet

ANKENY – Linn-Mar’s Christian Cloyd is in position for his best finish.
The junior golfer carded 3-over 75 and tie for 13th after the first round of the Class 4A state golf meet Monday at Briarwood Golf Club. Cloyd placed 12th last season and is six strokes back of leader Andrew Johannsen of Johnston.
Cloyd posted three birdies, coming in under par on holes No. 2 and 9 for 37 on the front nine. He also birded No. 15.
Iowa City West’s Emery Crawford shot 80 to tie for 45th and Western Dubuque’s Brock Wilson finished with 81 to tie for 50th.
Cedar Rapids Prairie ended Day 1 in 11th place in the team standings. The Hawks combined for 322. Connor Keenan and Tony Boelter paced Prairie with 79 apiece. Henry Sobaski added 81 and Emmett Stockdale rounded out the scoring with 83.
Johnston led after the first round with 298, leading Dubuque Wahlert by three.
The second and final round is set for Tuesday at 10 a.m.
