IOWA CITY — Former Hawkeye standout Brittany Brown earned the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 200-meter dash.
Brown finished with at time of 22.2 seconds — less than a second behind fellow American Gabby Thomas’ winning time of 21.83 seconds — during Tuesday’s Olympic final.
Brown, appearing in her first Olympic Games, became the first woman in Iowa track and field history to win an individual Olympic medal. She also is the Hawkeyes’ first Olympic medal winner — men’s or women’s — since Anthuan Maybank was part of the 1,600-meter relay team that took gold in 1996 in Atlanta.
“Brittany ran a terrific race to win the Olympic bronze medal,” Iowa track and field director Joey Woody said in a statement. “We are all proud of her amazing accomplishment tonight. She had a great career as a Hawkeye, and it’s fun to watch her continue that success on the Olympic stage.”
Brown is the second Hawkeye, regardless of sport, to earn a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games. Eve Stewart earned a bronze medal as a part of Great Britain’s rowing team.
