Iowa high school girls’ tennis 2024 regional singles and doubles assignments released

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Washington senior Katelynn Kock will begin her quest for a Class 2A singles title on Monday morning at the Linn-Mar Tennis Complex.

Regional singles and doubles pairings were released Wednesday morning by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Warriors are one of six teams assigned to the Linn-Mar regional and Kock, the state's top-ranked player in Class 2A, is the likely No. 1 seed.

All meets in classes 2A and 1A are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Teams can enter two singles players and two doubles teams into regional play. Coaches do not have to declare where players will enter until right before the meets, but Kock, who has a doubles title and a runner-up doubles finish in her career, said earlier this year her sights are set on the state singles title.

Iowa City West also will be hosting a regional that includes Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Iowa City High and Marion. Cedar Rapids Prairie and Cedar Rapids Kennedy will play at North Scott while Iowa City Liberty has been assigned to the Clinton regional.

In Class 1A, Cedar Rapids Xavier will travel to Saydel. The Saints have the state's top-ranked singles player in freshman Gabi Fleming, but it is not yet known if she will play singles or doubles.

Decorah will be hosting a 1A regional that includes Independence. Mount Vernon/Lisbon, South Tama and Western Dubuque are in the Camanche regional. Union Community will play at Waterloo Columbus.

All regional winners and runners-up will advance to the state tournament. Those meets will be on May 24-25 and will be played at the Hawkeye Recreation and Tennis Center in Iowa City (1A) and the Johnston High School Complex (2A).

Team regional assignments are expected to be released on Friday.
