IHSAA releases first installment of state dual rankings

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the first installment of its dual rankings for all classes.

The poll is used to determined regional dual qualifiers and are considered in pairings. Eight regional dual champions advance to the State Duals tournament Feb. 3 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

Alburnett and Mount Vernon lead all Gazette area teams. The Pirates are ranked second in Class 1A rankings, while the Mustangs are No. 2 in 2A.

Twenty-one Gazette area teams earned spots in the poll that is devised by an IHSAA committee with help from the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association.

Alburnett is behind Wilton with Jesup coming in at No. 6. MFL MarMac, Lisbon and West Branch come in at 12th through 14th in 1A.

In 3A, Linn-Mar’s strong third-place showing at the Battle of Waterloo helped them come in at No. 7 and Cedar Rapids Prairie is ninth. Iowa City High (No. 15), Clear Creek Amana (No. 16), Iowa City West (No. 18), Western Dubuque (No. 19) and 24th-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy made the inaugural list. Southeast Polk is No. 1.

Mount Vernon is ranked second in 2A behind Osage, Other Wamac Conference programs are West Delaware at No. 4, Benton Community at 11th, Independence at No. 12, No. 20 Solon, No. 21 Williamsburg and 22nd-ranked South Tama. Anamosa is 18th and Decorah is 24th in 2A.
