Iowa Restaurant Association names ‘Women to Watch’ honorees

Sep. 12, 2023 12:36 pm
DES MOINES — Four women in Corridor businesses have been named to the Iowa Restaurant Association’s annual list of 40 Women to Watch in Hospitality.
The local honorees are:
- Amelia Nickle, food and beverage director of The Highlander Hotel in Iowa City
- Angela Lochmann-Guzman, general manager of Sugarfire Smoke House in Cedar Rapids
- Emily Salmonson, owner of The Green House in Iowa City
- Kimberly Hartkemeyer, general manager of The Fun Station in Cedar Rapids
The Iowa Restaurant Association said this year’s honorees exemplify the diversity of the workforce and the breadth and depth of career opportunities available to women in hospitality today. This year’s honorees were selected from more than 100 nominations across the state, ranging from kitchen managers to entrepreneurs.
“There are more than 70,000 Iowa women working in the food, beverage, hospitality and leisure industries every day. What is exciting about this year’s list is that it includes the expected and unexpected,” said Jessica Dunker, president and CEO of the Iowa Restaurant Association. “There are female restaurant owners, but there are also women doing everything from school nutrition and specialized cleaning, to home-based baking and wine sales. All 40 represent hospitality in a unique way and each woman has found a meaningful career in their special food and beverage niche.”
The women will be recognized in Des Moines as part of the Iowa Restaurant Association’s annual Celebrating Excellence Awards ceremony on Nov. 13, in conjunction with the Iowa Hospitality Showcase.
