Keegan Murray of Cedar Rapids Prairie and the University of Iowa was fifth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting, announced Tuesday.
Murray got two second-place votes and 12 third-place votes from the panel of 100 sports writers and broadcasters. Murray was drafted by the Sacramento Kings a year ago with the No. 4 pick in the draft.
Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft, received 98 first-place votes to run away with the ROY honor. Oklahoma City guard Jalen Williams was second, Utah center Walker Kessler third, and Indiana forward Bennedict Mathurin fourth.
Murray averaged 12.2 points for the Kings. He made an NBA rookie-record 206 3-pointers, and shot 41.1 percent from that distance. He started 78 games and played 29.8 minutes per game for the Kings, who won the Pacific Division and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
The Kings host the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night in the fifth game of their first-round playoff series, which is tied 2-2. Murray scored 23 points for Sacramento Sunday in its 126-125 Game 4 loss in San Francisco Sunday.
