Iowa’s Keegan Murray breaks NBA record for 3-pointers by a rookie
Cedar Rapids’ Murray has 188 threes for a Sacramento Kings team headed for the playoffs for the first time since 2006

Keegan Murray set the NBA record for 3-pointers in a season by a rookie Wednesday.
The forward from Cedar Rapids Prairie and the University of Iowa made three 3-pointers in the Sacramento Kings’ 120-80 win over the Portland Trail Blazers to give him 188 this season.
That broke the rookie record of Donovan Mitchell’s 187, set in the 2017-18 season when he was with the Utah Jazz.

“I think it’s crazy just because it comes all in the flow of our offense,” Murray told reporters. “I feel like I really don’t do anything special. We have a lot of guys who know how to play-make, so I’m able to knock down shots and that’s kind of an attribute to them just finding me in the flow of our offense.”
“You know, it’s a phenomenal record to break,” Sacramento Coach Mike Brown said Monday. “Obviously the guy that has it right now is a phenomenal player and going to be in the Hall of Fame.
“And so when you start talking about those types of things and something that is there in the record books and talking about the history of the game, it’s no small feat. And so you look forward to any year, guys have an opportunity to put their imprint on the game in a way that Keegan will once he breaks that record.”
The Kings have six regular-season games remaining. They clinched their first playoff berth since 2006 with the victory.
Murray is averaging 11.9 points in 74 games played. He has started all but two of those.
