Many people use the beginning of each calendar year to create resolutions — making a firm decision to do or not to do something. A New Year’s resolution is a tradition in which someone resolves to accomplish a personal goal or improve their behavior.
Some of the most common New Year’s resolutions include getting organized, learning a new skill or hobby, living life to the fullest, saving money and spending more time with friends or family.
The Kids Gazette spoke with a few children in Eastern Iowa about what they want to achieve in 2023.
“To get a new phone.” — Tarteel, 12
“I have finished reading Percy Jackson and the Hobbit. I want to read hundreds of books, all kinds of books.” — Eliot, 11
“I want to work harder in math. To do that, it is important to remember to never give up.” — Retaj, 10
“I want to get better at reading and writing by doing more practice and believing in myself.” — Tilawa, 10
“I want to become better at soccer and read more than 50 books.” — Luke, 8
“To get a pet, a guinea pig.” — Mohamed, 7
“I want to become better at math by studying more.” — Mohaned, 7
“I want more snuggles with mom.” — Evie, 5
Create Your Own Resolution
How about you? There is still time to make your resolutions for 2023 and work on achieving them. Create a list of goals and how you can accomplish them. Share your goals with a friend or family member who can help keep you accountable.
It’s OK if you don’t achieve all or any of your goals! The important thing is the progress you make.
