Here are 12 area wrestlers to watch for the 2022-23 Iowa high school girls’ wrestling season.
Naomi Simon, Decorah, jr. — Ranked No. 7 nationally at 164 pounds, two-time IWCOA girls’ state champion, posted 25-0 record last season for 45-0 career mark, 2022 Preseason Nationals tournament champion.
Emma Peach, Iowa Valley, soph. — Ranked No. 11 nationally at 144, 2022 IWCOA girls’ state champion at 140 with a 21-0 record.
Jill Worthen, Union Community, soph. — Ranked No. 20 nationally at 106, 2022 IWCOA girls’ state champion at 100, going 18-0, 16U Nationals All-American, placing seventh.
Jannell Avila, Iowa City West, sr.— Ranked No. 19 nationally at 164, three-time IWCOA girls’ state medalist, 138-pound IWCOA 138-pound champion in 2020, placed third at 155 with 12-1 record last season.
Rachel Eddy, Independence, sr.— Ranked No. 23 nationally at 200, three-time IWCOA girls’ state medalist, two-time finalist and 195-pound champion at 195 in 2021, placed third last year with 15-1 mark, 40-2 career mark.
Sam Spielbauer, Clayton Ridge, sr. — Two-time IWCOA girls’ state medalist, winning 160 title in 2021 and placing third at 170 with 17-3 record last season.
Ella Brown, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, soph.— Placed second at 2022 Preseason Nationals tournament at 200, finished seventh in IWCOA girls’ state tournament with a 14-2 record at 190 last year.
Mackenzie Childers, Cedar Rapids Prairie, soph. — Placed fourth at IWCOA girls’ state tournament with 24-6 mark at 125.
Ally Jelinek, Linn-Mar, soph. — Went 3-2 at IWCOA girls’ state tournament to reach the round of 12, posted an 18-5 overall mark as a freshman.
Moorea Brown, Center Point-Urbana, sr. — Three-time IWCOA girls’ state tournament medalist, placing third at 135 with 20-5 record last season, owns 46-11 overall mark, finished fourth at 2022 Preseason Nationals at 144.
Keeley Kehrli, East Buchanan, sr. — Three-time IWCOA girls’ state tournament medalist, including a runner-up finish at 152 in 2021 and sixth last season going 26-3, posted 65-18 career record.
Libby Dix, Mount Vernon, soph. — Placed fifth at IWCOA girls’ state tournament, posted record of 18-5 at 170 pounds.
