Cedar Rapids man sentenced to probation in shooting last year

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was sentenced Tuesday to three years probation for a shooting last August after he and another man met for a fight near Eighth Avenue and Sixth Street SW.

Aryan Storm Green, 19, originally charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty in June to the remaining felony charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and going armed with intent.

As part of a plea agreement, 6th Judicial District Chief Judge Lars Anderson ran the 10- and five-year sentences consecutively for a total of 15 years but suspended both and sentenced Green to three years probation.

Anderson warned Green, during the hearing, that the 15-year sentence is “hanging over your head” and if he violates his probation, he could be sent to prison.

The judge told him the best thing for him to do is stay away from drugs and firearms.

Green declined to speak during sentencing.

According to a criminal complaint, video surveillance identified Green as firing a handgun at Jalen Jackson in the 800 Block of Sixth Street SW on Aug. 26, 2021.

Police said Green, after shooting multiple rounds, fled on foot. Jackson wasn’t injured during the shooting.

Green was arrested in January of this year by the U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force on the outstanding warrants.
