You might’ve wondered what it’s like to be in a situation that leaves you wondering … do or die?
That leaves your glasses broken on your face, scratches up and down your arms and tears running down your face when you realize it’s all over.
What you did was questionable, but it was all for good. It’ll all be OK once everything goes back to normal.
But that’s not the point. You might know my story, the story of the girl who saved the underworld from certain disaster with her newfound water powers. The deaf girl who showed people that anyone can do anything.
I’ve graduated from high school with a full-ride scholarship, and I’m going to college in California for family studies and social work. I’ll be doing some surfing while I’m there, as well as learning how to help families grow in ways that will change their lives forever.
Leaving my hometown in Hawaii doesn’t mean I’m leaving behind all of the memories there. The bad ones I wish I could leave, but the fact that I saved a city — no, kingdom — from a certain fate is something that I’ll never, ever forget.
You might also be wondering — what happened after that last fight? When I blacked out from using my powers to their max potential?
Well, the police captured the bad guys after I nearly drowned us all accidentally, and I was taken to a hospital. All of my water powers left me after that last battle, and I was thankful for that.
Mira moved back into her half-fallen castle and gave me a guest room in my very own hall. The story went into the papers and I was classified a hero. Many people who wanted to see the site of the battle traveled to the Dark Land, where the cities made a lot of money off tourists and started to rebuild.
I think it will be a long time before someone else tries any mischief — and I plan on using that time wisely.
I’ll be a normal kid again.
Just like you.
