Person armed with knife entered University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Emergency Room

IOWA CITY — A person armed with a knife entered the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Emergency Room on Tuesday evening.
UI spokeswoman Hayley Bruce said the UI Department of Public Safety received a report of a person armed with a knife in the emergency room at 6:53 p.m. The person was threatening others, Bruce said.
Iowa City and UI police arrived within three minutes and took the person into custody with help from an Iowa Department of Corrections officer who was there for a separate matter, Bruce said.
As of Wednesday morning, the person was being treated at the hospital for injuries they inflicted upon themselves during the incident. No other injuries have been reported, Bruce said.
The incident remains under investigation.
