Jun. 4, 2014 10:27 pm, Updated: Jun. 5, 2014 4:54 am
IOWA CITY, IOWA - Iowa City Police responded to Pheasant Ridge Apartments for a report of multiple shots fired around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers put up police tape around several buildings around 2652 Bartlet St. Sgt. Dave Droll confirmed at least one shot was fired, and one building was hit. Five police dogs were used in a search of the area around the scene, including K9 units from Coralville Police and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. No injuries were reported.
Police took two men into custody that matched the description of the suspects from witnesses at the scene. Officials won't confirm if the men are the suspects.
A woman was injured in a shooting at the complex back in March.
Last week, manager Steve Finley said shootings and other incidents such as drug use and trespassing led him to contract with Iowa City police officers for extra patrols several nights each week. It wasn't immediately clear if the extra police presence was on duty at the time of the shooting.
The contract specifies one overtime officer will patrol the apartments for seven hours each night and three to four nights per week for $64 per hour.
Police said its arrangement with Pheasant Ridge is similar to others made for security at sporting events or grocery stores having problems with shoplifting.
