Alburnett teacher accused of ‘inappropriate relationship’

ALBURNETT - A former Alburnett High School teacher has been accused of soliciting an 'inappropriate relationship” with a female student.

Adam Macke, 34, taught English for one year in the Alburnett school district, which has 650 students from northern Linn County.

A Board of Educational Examiners investigation found that Macke 'fostered a personal relationship with a female student and failed to establish appropriate boundaries” during the 2017-18 school year, according to a board notice of hearing dated July 19.

The board has the authority to revoke teachers' licenses. Macke's license is set to expire in July 2019.

Macke is no longer employed by the Alburnett district, a representative said. The district declined to release any additional information.

The Board of Educational Examiners received a complaint about Macke on Dec. 26, according to the notice.

On April 6, the board opted to proceed with a hearing following an investigation. The hearing is set for Oct. 30.

According to a school district website post that appears to have been written by Macke, he is originally from Solon and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa.

Macke did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No criminal charges have been filed, according to Iowa Courts Online.
