Iowa girls' state basketball 2019: Monday's scores, stats and more
The 2019 Iowa high school girls' state basketball tournament tipped off Monday with quarterfinal action in Class 5A and Class 3A.

Monday's state tournament scores
CLASS 5A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Johnston 66, No. 14 Urbandale 57
Down 41-23 at halftime, top-ranked Johnston rallied to survive an opening-round upset scare from Urbandale.
The Dragons outscored the J-Hawks 20-9 in the third quarter and 23-7 in the fourth to advance. Johnston shot 54.3 percent from the field and made 24 of 32 free throws.
Maya McDermott led Johnston (22-2) with 22 points while Kendall Nead added 15 and Regan Nesheim scored 14. DeeDee Pryor paced Urbandale (13-10) with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
No. 8 West Des Moines Valley 66, No. 6 Iowa City High 59 (OT)
Rose Nkumu collected an offensive rebound and buried a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to send the game to overtime, but Valley outscored City High 9-2 in the extra frame to advance.
Zoe Young poured in 30 points for the Tigers (18-5) on 11-for-18 shooting, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range. The Maryland commit also pulled down 10 rebounds, dished five assists and blocked two shots. Nkumu finished with 25 points for City High (19-3) and Aubrey Joens had 19.
The Little Hawks were the last remaining 5A team from a conference other than the CIML.
No. 11 West Des Moines Dowling 75, No. 2 Waukee 70 (3OT)
Caitlin Clark scored a 5A tournament record 42 points and Grace Gaber hit the go-ahead free throws with 42 seconds left in the third overtime to send Dowling (17-7) to the semifinals.
Clark made 14 of 39 shots, including 7 of 19 from 3-point range, but fouled out with her team ahead up 70-68 and 1:02 remaining. Katie Dinnebier tied it with a layup for the Warriors (18-5), then Gaber raced to the other end, drew a foul and knocked down a pair from the line.
Dinnebier's layup with six seconds left in the first overtime forced another extra session. Clark hit the tying jumper with 1:52 remaining in OT2.
No. 3 Southeast Polk 61, No. 10 Ankeny Centennial 56 (OT)
Iowa State commit Maggie McGraw had 24 points and eight rebounds and made 10 of 12 free throws to help the Rams (20-3) move on.
Kenna Sauer led Centennial with 17 points and 12 boards. The Jaguars (15-8) shot just 31.7 percent from the field and were 1 for 5 in overtime.
No team scored in the final 2:39 of regulation. McGraw's free throws with 1:52 remaining in OT gave SEP a 56-55 lead.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 North Polk 59, Estherville-Lincoln Central 47
The top-ranked Comets (22-2) heated up after a cold first quarter that saw them lead just 7-4.
Maggie Phipps scored 19 points, Jaedon Murphy added 15 plus 11 rebounds and Katie Brown chipped in 14. Josie Condon scored a game-high 21 for ELC (14-11).
No. 9 Waukon 48, No. 7 Crestwood 37
The Indians won the rubber match of the season series against their Northeast Iowa Conference foe.
Waukon (19-3) shot just 28.6 percent, including 4 of 14 from deep, but benefited from 25 Crestwood (15-6) turnovers while giving it away six times.
Annika Headington led Waukon with 15 points. Iowa commit Sharon Goodman scored 21 points for Crestwood, the defending 3A champion.
No. 5 Des Moines Christian 49, No. 11 Roland-Story 41
Emma Veenstra and Kaili Lawson combined for 29 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lions (23-2) to the semifinals.
DMC ended the game on a 9-2 run after Roland-Story closed within one.
Reagan Barkema scored 14 points for the Norse (19-6).
