Woman hit by car, seriously injured in Cedar Rapids Wednesday night

CEDAR RAPIDS — A woman was hospitalized after being hit by a car Wednesday night.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said first responders were called to Collins Road and Northland Avenue NE around 9:44 p.m. after a 60-year-old woman was hit by a sedan as she as crossing the road. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, but was conscious when she left the scene, Buelow said.
The incident remains under investigation.
A 2008 Iowa Department of Transportation environmental assessment showed that the intersection of Collins Road and Northland Avenue NE, which is near Lindale Mall, has a crash rate above the statewide average.
