IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man is accused of leaving his son at home alone so he could play Pokemon Go with his other son.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, officers were called to 116 Friendship St. at 9:06 p.m. Aug. 6 for an unattended 6-year-old boy who had been found.

Police said the boy woke up from a nap and discovered his father was gone. The boy then left the house and went outside to find an adult. Police said a neighbor found the boy and looked after him until officers arrived.

The boy’s father, 30-year-old Michael J. Dunham, told police he left his son at home alone and had taken his other son to play Pokemon Go. Police said 90 minutes passed between when the 6-year-old was left at home and when his father called 911 to see where he was.

Police said the 6-year-old boy was too young to take care of or fend for himself. Dunham was arrested and faces one count of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail.
