WEST BRANCH — Several crashes involving more than 30 vehicles injured three people Sunday and resulted in the temporary closure of westbound Interstate 80 near West Branch.
According to a minimal crash report filed by the Iowa State Patrol, two crashes happened around noon in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 at the 254 mile marker, near West Branch. Those crashes involved five vehicles, the state patrol reported.
A “secondary collision” happen after the two initial crashes. That collision involved 28 vehicles and resulted in three personal injuries, authorities said.
All three collisions remain under investigation, and Interstate 80 has since reopened.
