Residents safe after early morning Cedar Rapids apartment fire

Aug. 16, 2016 8:18 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - Residents were able to safely return to their home after an overnight fire at an apartment building.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to a multifamily dwelling at 3320 Queen Dr. SW just after midnight Tuesday morning. Responding firefighters encountered a covered entry way that was on fire. Residents were in the process of evacuating.
The fire on the entry way was knocked down and firefighters searched the inside of the building to ensure the fire had not spread. No additional fires were found, firefighters said.
While the covered entry sustained considerable damage, there was little damage to the main structure. No one was hurt and the residents were allowed to return to their apartment, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
