May. 23, 2016 3:51 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Components of suspected explosive devices were found in a Cedar Rapids apartment where an explosion took place last week.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said the police department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are still investigating an explosion that was reported at 5:01 p.m. May 20. The explosion happened inside an apartment unit at 2107 Blairs Ferry Road NE.
Police said the apartment's resident, 46-year-old Gerald R. LeGrand was injured in the explosion. LeGrand remains at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious injuries suffered in the explosion.
Buelow said investigators found components of suspected improvised explosive devices inside LeGrand's apartment. Those items have been sent to the ATF's explosive's lab for analysis.
Buelow said he can't speak to what LeGrand might have intended to do with the explosive devices. The police department and ATF are jointly investigating the explosion.
'The ATF said that's part of their investigation,” he said.
No charges have been filed at this time.
