Cedar Rapids police: One person injured after 'targeted shooting' outside grocery store

Mar. 5, 2016 10:28 am
CEDAR RAPIDS – A man was shot in the leg in what police say was a 'targeted' shooting outside of a grocery store Friday.
According to public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, Cedar Rapids police officers heard gunshots in the area of Jim's Foods, 812 Sixth St. SW, around 9:20 p.m. Friday. Several 911 calls followed, police said.
Responding officers found blood in the parking lot, but did not locate a victim or suspect, Buelow said. However, shortly thereafter, a 24-year-old man showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Subsequent investigation showed the man had been the one shot at Jim's Foods. Buelow said preliminary information indicates the victim was targeted, but no other information was made available.
The investigation is ongoing.
