CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man faces a weapons charge after shooting at a burglary suspect.
Cedar Rapids police responded to an alleged burglary at 47 Florida Court SW at 5:41 a.m. Sunday. Around that same time, neighbors reported that a gun had been fired, police said.
Police spoke with the victim, 21-year-old Dakota Nelson. Nelson told officers that someone had broken into his home and stolen a purse. Nelson told officers he had a handgun, but denied shooting it, police said.
However, police said surveillance video obtained in the investigation showed Nelson chasing after a suspect vehicle and shooting a gun at the vehicle. As a result, Nelson was arrested on one count of reckless use of a firearm.
No injuries have been reported, police said. The burglary investigation is ongoing.
