CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man faces weapons charges after he was found with a stolen gun.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office and Cedar Rapids spokeswoman Maria Johnson, Cedar Rapids police responded to 114 21st St. SW around 9:23 p.m. Monday for a disturbance involving a firearm.
After speaking with witnesses, police found Christopher J.E. McGee, 22, had hidden a 9 mm handgun between the mattresses of a bed. Officers ran a trace on the gun and discovered it was stolen.
Several witnesses told police they saw McGee, who is a felon, with the handgun. He has been charged with trafficking stolen weapons, control of a firearm by a felon and carrying weapons.
Johnson said a 16-year-old was also arrested on one count of carrying weapons. He was also wanted on two warrants for violating a court-ordered placement.
McGee was also wanted in connection with fleeing from a traffic stop earlier in the month. According to court documents, police pulled over McGee on March 16 for a traffic offense. Officers learned McGee is barred from driving until 2010. McGee ran from police after the traffic stop and was not immediately located. For that incident, he has been charged with driving while barred and interference with official acts.
