UPDATE: Iowa City Landfill to remain closed Monday due to fire

Expected to reopen Tuesday morning

IOWA CITY — The Iowa City Landfill will remain closed Monday following an early morning fire, officials said in a midday news release.

Staff plans to reopen the landfill Tuesday morning for normal business hours.

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the landfill at 2:30 a.m. Monday. The fire was knocked out by 7:50 a.m. with assistance from the Tiffin, Oxford and Hills fire department, and firefighters remained at the scene as of 8 a.m. Monday.
