IOWA CITY - A homeless man faces a robbery charge after stealing a bank bag on Friday.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, around 10:30 a.m. Friday, a woman was leaving the downtown branch of MidWestOne bank carrying a bank bag when she was attacked by two men. Police said one of the men, 24-year-old Darryl M. Henry, grabbed the bank bag and pushed the woman, before fleeing with his accomplice.
Police said Henry dropped the money bag, but his accomplice picked up the bag and the men fled in opposite directions.
Henry was spotted by police a few minutes after the robbery and tried to run from officers, but was caught after a short chase. Police said Henry admitted to his role in the robbery, but refused to give up his accomplice.
Police said surveillance video from the area shows the two men 'lurking” in the area just before the robbery and running from the scene.
Henry was arrested and faces one count of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony.
