Six days after Donald Trump achieved a historic victory that will return him to the White House next year, controversial conservative commentator Michael Knowles on Monday will speak at the University of Iowa — inciting push back from some on campus in the form of vandalism and planned protests.
Newly governed by a revised tiered student organization structure the University of Iowa implemented this fall following years of litigation, appeals, and legislative action, the UI chapter of conservative-leaning Young Americans for Freedom next week will host its first big event of the academic year.
“For over four hours, they were just completely fighting about me,” Jasmyn Jordan said. “Calling me a white supremacist, a Nazi, a bigot, a token, all that kind of stuff, which was really weird to me. Because, first off, I hadn't even gotten the chance to state my position, state what I believe.”
The University of Iowa chapter of conservative student group Young Americans for Freedom next week will welcome to campus the former teammate of transgender NCAA Division I national champion swimmer Lia Thomas for a talk titled, “Men do not belong in women’s sports.”
