Tri-Rivers quartet among undefeated state qualifiers

Feb. 13, 2012 8:49 pm
Starting the state tournament with a zero in the loss column is a lot less than finishing with it.
Four Tri-Rivers wrestlers will open the Class 1A state tournament Thursday at 7 p.m. without a loss. Hunter Washburn (106) of Alburnett, North Linn duo Logan Mulnix (138) and 170-pounder Brendan Schott and Maquoketa Valley's Ryan Parmely (195) are among 31 unbeaten state qualifiers.
Top-ranked Washburn (42-0) and No. 6 Parmely (46-0) are both freshmen. Mulnix (41-0), a senior looking for his second state title and third straight finals appearance, and Schott (42-0), a junior, are both top-ranked.
Among the group of undefeated wrestlers are Cedar Rapids Prairie's Class 3A top-ranked 152-pounder Zach Witte (19-0), West Delaware's Adam Reth, a junior who is 40-0 as the top-ranked 195-pounder in 2A, Solon's Cody Fritz (43-0 at 152) and Lisbon's No. 2 Tait Simpson(27-0).
