Third time is a charm for Telford

Mar. 21, 2014 1:50 pm
OKLAHOMA CITY - University of Iowa's Bobby Telford scored a win over Michigan's Adam Coon when it mattered most.
After two close losses to the Wolverine's fourth-seeded freshman, Telford won on the biggest stage.
Telford scored an escape and rode out Coon for a 3-2 win in the second overtime tiebreaker in a heavyweight quarterfinal at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Telford earned his second All-American finish, placing fifth in 2012.
Telford, a junior, and Coon exchanged escapes regulation and then again in the first tiebreaker. Telford scored an escape in the first 30-second period of the second tiebreaker and then prevented Coon's escape in the final 30-second frame.
Telford (25-5) faces Minnesota's Tony Nelson in a heavyweight semifinal.
