Ramos wins Big 10 weekly honor

University of Iowa sophomore Tony Ramos was named Big 10 Wrestler of the Week in an announcement Tuesday. Ramos scored two wins, including a 4-3 overtime win over Oklahoma State's defending NCAA champion and top-ranked Jordan Oliver in Iowa's 17-16 loss to the Cowboys Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Ramos, who is 17-1 and ranked No. 1 by Amateur Wrestling News, scored on a penalty point in the first 30-second period of tiebreaker1 and then rode Oliver for the second 30-second period of the first tiebreaker. Until that match, Oliver had been 10-0 with 10 falls.

RAMOS EARNS BIG TEN HONOR
IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa 133-pound wrestler Tony Ramos has been named Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week. The weekly honor is the second of Ramos' career.
Ramos, a sophomore from Carol Stream, Ill., earned a second-period pin at Indiana on Friday and topped defending NCAA champion and top-ranked Jordan Oliver on Saturday. His 4-3 overtime victory over Oliver ran Ramos' career dual record to 20-0, including a perfect 12-0 mark inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Ramos, currently ranked No. 1 in the country by Amateur Wrestling News, owns a 17-1 record with four major decisions, four pins and five technical falls.
Ramos shared the weekly award with Illinois 149-pound senior Eric Terrazas, marking the second time this season he has shared the weekly conference honor. He last earned the award Dec. 6, 2011, following a pair of bonus point victories over Illinois' B.J. Futrell and Iowa State's Shayden Terukina.
Ramos and the Hawkeyes return to the mat Friday at Nebraska. The Huskers host the Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. inside the NU Coliseum. Iowa then returns to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday to host Northwestern at 1 p.m. on Mediacom Mat.
