Midlands Championships Pre-seeds

Dec. 22, 2010 9:30 am
The Tournament Committee of Northwestern University's Midlands Championships has released the pre-seeds for the tournament set for Dec. 29-30. The field includes 97 ranked competitors and four No. 1 ranked wrestlers, according to the release on the Northwestern athletics website. See the posting here.
The University of Iowa Hawkeyes have wrestlers pre-seeded in the top 8 in all but three weight classes - 149, 174 and heavyweight - but Ethen Lofthouse (174) and Blake Rasing (Hwt.) are listed as "Other contenders" and could be seeded if their brackets are expanded beyond eight seeds.
Matt McDonough and Grant Gambrall are seeded No. 1 for the Hawkeyes at 125 and 184, respectively. Iowa State's Jon Reader is the top pre-seed at 174.
Arizona State has the Midlands on its schedule, but Anthony Robles isn't listed at 125. It appears Robles will not be competing in Evanston, Ill., according to the final graph of the article of that link.
