DES MOINES (AP) - Megan Black now holds a place in the state record books as the first girl to win a contested match at the Iowa wrestling tournament.
The junior from Eddyville-Blakesburg won her first match of the tournament Thursday with a 10-0 win over Jacob Schmit of Don Bosco at 106 pounds.
Black told the Des Moines Register that her goal was to earn a spot on the medal stand at the tournament. That goal became more difficult to reach Friday when Black lost her second-round match to Taylor Curtis from Underwood, but she'll continue to wrestle in the consolation bracket.
