Live wrestling results: Indiana vs. #2 Iowa

We are about to start the Big Ten dual between #2 Iowa (11-0-1, 4-0) and Indiana (10-5, 0-4) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa is coming off a win over previously top-ranked Penn State. Can't seem to see any fans, but it is camouflage night so maybe they're blending in.

We're at 125 between Matt McDonough and Justin Brooks. McDonough is dominating Brooks at the end of the first period. McD has five T2 and NF3 to lead 13-4, plus 1:55 of RT. Mcdonough almost has the fall in the second and gets NF3. In third, McD gets R2 before turning Brooks and sticking him in 5:59. Iowa up, 6-0.
At 133, Tony ramos vs. Matt Ortega. Ramos leads 4-2 after first with two T2. Almost finished a third but buzzer went off as he trip Ortega to the mat. Ramos started down for the second. Ramos with an E1 and then gets a nice double-leg T2 on edge of the mat to lead 7-2, before releasing Ortega and scoring another T2 after some scrambling with 12 seconds to go in second. After two, Ramos leads, 9-3. Ramos working for major, which is no surprise. He's up 15-6 with 1 min. to go. Ramos gets his first T2 and takes ortega to his back and gets the fall in 6:26. Iowa up 12-0.
At 141, Montell Marion vs. Mitchell Richey. Marion gets loudest ovation from the crowd so far. Crowd seems to welcome and appreciate Montell being back. He gets an opening T2 and adds another for 4-1 lead with 35 seconds to go in first. Richey with E1 in second to make it 4-2 Marion. Richey gets a T2 on Marion, but Marion keeps moving and gets E1 as time expires. He leads 5-4 after two. Marion with a R2 to start third and catches Richey on his back for NF3. Marion up 10-4 with 1 min to go. Marion with another T2 and with 2:32 of RT Marion wins 13-5 to make it 16-0.
Matt Ballweg takes the mat at 149 for the Hawkeyes. He's facing Kurt Kinser, who is ranked 15th. Scoreless first. Each made one attempt to score but no points. Ballweg chooses down for second. Kinser rides Ballweg out. Kinser down for second and then gets E1 17 seconds into third. 1-0 Kinser with 1:43 RT. Ballweg in on nice low sweep-single. Can't finish on edge without being called out of bounds. Came close to have it as Kinser was on his butt. Now Kinser hearing it from the crowd as he lays on his back and is taking injury time. 50 seconds to go. Kinser shows no troubles walking to center and crowd picks up on that. Ballweg shoots in but Kinser holds him off for 2-0 win and Iowa lead is 16-3.
At 157, #9 derek St. John vs. #5 Paul Young. The top matchup of the night. St. John gets in deep once but can't finish. Scoreless after one with DSJ starting down for second. DSJ with a nice flurry, breaking free off a switch attempt from his stand up as they were going out of bounds. DSJ drops in on Young and scores T2. he leads 3-0 with 1 minute to go. DSJ rides out Young to compile 1:10 of RT to go with 3-0 lead to start third. Young chooses neutral. DSJ in on shot, trying to stack him, finally gets T2 when Young bails out, but DSJ stays with it and catches Young on his back then turks him over and gets the fall with 40 seconds left to go in third. Iowa up 22-3.
At 165, Aaron Janssen vs. Ryan LeBlanc. Janssen opens with a quick T2 and LeBlanc with E1. Janssen shoots high-crotch and finishes as time expires. Ref doesn't award T2. Secondary official meets with head ref and they give the T2. Janssen leads 4-1 after first. leBlance with E1 in second and that's all the scoring. Janssen leads, 4-2, after second. Janssen puts on a takedown clinic in the third for 14-5 win, putting Iowa up, 26-3.
At 174, Jake Kerr takes the mat for Iowa. He's facing Nick Avery of Indiana. Scoreless first period. Kerr with E1 to lead 1-0 in second. Avery with an E1 in third. Tied 1-1 with 1 min. left. Avery hit with stalling. 35 secs to go. Kerr shoots in deep and Kerr dropped to his back but rolls through to fight off T2 and then gets a bearhug for T2 and NF2 as time expires. Kerr wins, 5-1. Iowa up, 29-3.
At 184, Grant Gambrall vs. Eric Cameron. Gambrall gets in deep on shot attempt and finishes for 2-0 in last 20 seconds of first. cameron to start down for second. Cameron with E1, but Gambrall scores T2 with 5 seconds to go in period. GG leads 4-1 after two. After GG E1 to go up 5-1, Cameron gets T2 to make it 5-3. 43 seconds to go. GG wins 5-3 and Iowa is up 32-3.
A second match between ranked wrestlers, Iowa's #12 Luke Lofthouse vs. #5 matt Powless. Powless with first T2 and Lofthouse with E1. 2-1 Powless with 1:28 to go in first. Lofthouse in on shot and finishes with 17 secs left in first. He leads 3-2. Powless tries an E1 in short time, but Lofthouse returns him emphatically to mat. Lofthouse with E1 to start second and then in on another nice high crotch with a quick finish to go up 6-2. Lofthouse, who has been plagued by not being able to finish takedowns, has finished nicely on both. Lofthouse in on another shot at end of period, but time runs out. He's looking good as Powless gets E1 to start third to make it 6-4 Lofthouse. Lofthouse with another T2, does a great job on the edge working for points and keeping one foot in for score. 8-4 LL. Lofthouse adds another T2 at end of the third. Lofthouse pumps like he was doing an exaggerated shoulder press and then runs off the mat with a yell as he headed to the tunnel. Iowa up 35-3 and an impressive and important win for Lofthouse.
At Hwt., Ricky Alcala ranked about No. 10, gets out to 6-2 lead at the end of first with two T2 and a NF2. rasing has battled back and after a nice T2 on a low single, Alcala's lead has been cut to 6-5 at the end of the second. Alcala holds off Rasing for the win. Iowa wins 35-6.
