Iowa State's Trent Weatherman arrested for public intoxication

Oct. 9, 2013 6:53 pm
Iowa State red-shirt senior Trent D. Weatherman was arrested for public intoxication during an incident last weekend at a bar in Iowa City.
According to The Gazette's Lee Hermiston, the 23-year-old Weatherman, of Ames, failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test before being arrested by Iowa City Police. He allegedly entered the basement, which is off limits to patrons, and was spotted by Sports Column staff. Police said Weatherman urinated in a beer tub, during the time in the basement. Weatherman has already pled guilty.
Weatherman, a two-time 152-pound state champion in 2008 and 2009 and a four-time state finalist for Ballard High School, was arrested twice in 2011, and suspended from the team for a period of time after an assault charge that was later dropped. He pleaded guilty to public intoxication in Story County that year.
According to Melissa Erickson of the Ames Tribune, Iowa State spokesman Mike Green said Cyclones Coach Kevin Jackson was aware of the incident and that it would be "handled internally" and that his future participation had already been in doubt due to injury. Weatherman was just 1-1 last year, missing most of the season due to injury.
