Helgerson scores top performance for Iowa heavyweights

Based solely on the accomplishments at the 48th Midlands Championships, Wartburg's John Helgerson would be considered the state's top collegiate heavyweight.
The Knights' two-time All-American and 2010 NCAA Division III national finalist placed higher than his Iowa counterparts. Helgerson was placed in the top six, wrestling for fifth last night.
Helgerson, a native of West Union and state finalist for North Fayette, beat Iowa State heavyweights Kyle Simonson (3-1) and Matt Gibson (4-3) and UNI's Christian Brantley (3-1). Helgerson also placed ahead of two University of Iowa wrestlers.
