Here are the finalists for this week's KCRG-TV9 Athlete of the Week.
Cade Jones
West Branch
Wrestling
Cade is the Class 1A 195 pound state champ. He pinned his opponent in the championship match in 2 minutes 17 seconds. He completed the dream run through state, where he came in ranked 10th. Cade finished the season 44-6. Three of his four wins at state were pins, the other a hard fought 5-4 decision in the semis. Last year as a sophomore he finished 4th, now a champ as a junior.
Erik Lux
South Tama
Wrestling
Erik is the Class 2A state champ at 160 pounds. He pinned his opponent in the finals in the third period. Lux finished the season 49-3 on the year. He came in to state ranked fifth, but won it all. He had three decisions and a pin at state. Lux notched career win No. 100 with his win in the finals. His brother Kyle won state last year.
Zach Witte
Cedar Rapids Prairie
Wrestling
Zach is the state champ in Class 3A at 152 pounds. He finished his career with back-to-back state titles, after he won it last year at 145 pounds as a junior. He has not been beaten in the last two years. Zach bat Dylan Blackford of SE Polk in the finals, 5-3. He finished undefeated 27-0 on the year - he was injured half of the year. He's the sixth multiple state champion in school history. Witte had two decisions, a major, and a tech fall at state. He's ranked eighth in the country at 152 pounds. Witte will wrestle for UNI next year.
