All-MVC wrestling team selections

The Mississippi Valley Conference released its all-conference selections Tuesday.

Linn-Mar placed a division-leading eight wrestlers on the first team of the all-MVC Mississippi Division squad. The division champion and Lions, who finished second at the conference super meet, were led by MVC champions Matt Wempen (103), Damon Griffin (120) and 182-pounder Mark Atwater. Linn-Mar Coach Doug Streicher was named MVC Mississippi Division Coach of the Year.

In the Valley Division, Cedar Rapids Prairie's Blake Williams was named Coach of the Year as the Hawks had six first-team, including MVC champions Cameron Rathje (170) and 220-pounder Andrew Netolicky. MVC finalists Josh Wenger (113), Skyler St. John (138) and 182-pounder Austin Gould were also first-teamers for the Hawks.

Iowa City West had the most first-team selections with eight in the Valley Division. MVC champions Phil Laux (113), Jack Hathaway (125), Dakota Bauer (132) and 160-pounder Justin Koethe were on the first team for the division champion Trojans.
