3 Gazette area stars from the 2024 Iowa high school boys’ state wrestling tournament Friday

DES MOINES — Three Gazette area stars from the Iowa high school boys’ state wrestling tournament Friday:
Austin Scranton, Anamosa
The junior top-seeded 175-pounder scored the final eight points in an 8-6 decision over West Delaware’s Brent Yonkovic in the Class 2A semifinals to become the Blue Raiders’ first state finalist since 2004.
Kyler Scranton, Iowa City West
The No. 8 seed posted two decisions, rebounding from a loss in his opening match with four straight wins to earn a top-six finish at 175 in 3A.
Jackson Jaspers, Mount Vernon
The No. 4-seed Jaspers recorded a major decision and blanked Creston’s Austin Evans, 1-0, to move into the top six at 144 in 2A. Jaspers becomes the Mustangs’ second four-time state medalist, joining four-time state champion Greg Randall (1979-82). Jaspers placed fifth, fourth and seventh the last three years.
