The following are area capsules for the Iowa high school football state quarterfinals.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the round of 16 pairings for all seven classes Saturday. Each class is split into four four-team pods with the pod winner advancing to the state semifinals held at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. In Class 5A, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Iowa City High and Linn-Mar made the field and will play on the road for the first round.

Class 3A No. 7 Solon beat top-ranked Williamsburg 21-14 in an Iowa high school football game Friday night.
Multiple times the Solon defense hoisted the team on its shoulders Friday night, canceling out short fields and turnovers, limiting scores and putting up points of their own in the No. 7 Spartans’ 21-14 victory over top-ranked Williamsburg in a Class 3A District 5 battle at Spartan Stadium. Solon won its sixth straight game and took control of the district title race.
