West Lyon scored on its opening play of overtime and produced a goalline stand to beat Iowa City Regina, 34-27, in the Class 1A state football championship Thursday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Iowa City Regina plays West Lyon in Friday afternoon’s Class 1A state football championship game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. There are 14 seniors on this Regals roster, a class that couldn’t win a game when they were in middle school.

State softball: West Lyon trails Cascade 4-0 and 8-6, but rallies twice to win a back-and-forth Class 2A quarterfinal, 10-8.

LaPorte City Union Community boys’ basketball players were certain Gavin Rohrbach was watching them play their Class 2A state tournament quarterfinal Tuesday night. The Knights lost to West Lyon, but surely Rohrbach, who died in September in an automobile accident, is proud of the season his teammates put together.
