This is the fifth in a series diving into area Iowa high school football districts for the 2024 season. Today, we examine Class 3A. West Delaware, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg are the title picks.
The Gazette’s “Fab 5” Gazette-area Class 3A football players to watch during the 2024 Iowa high school football season: Williamsburg’s Rayce Heitman, Solon’s Grant Wilson, Mount Vernon’s Ethan Wood, Independence’s Tate Wood and West Delaware’s Brent Yonkovic.
Senior quarterback Brent Yonkovic accounted for over 3,000 of his West Delaware football team’s 4,000 offensive yards last season. Potent as a runner and passer, he and the Hawks have soaring aspirations in 2024.

The state golf tournaments for all four classes will be held May 23-24. Cedar Rapids Washington and Linn-Mar advance to the Class 4A state meet at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny. Cedar Rapids Xavier qualified for the 3A championships at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
