Iowa State, University of Northern Iowa won tournaments last weekend. Iowa had four champions in Wisconsin. Dubuque Wahlert lost a regular-season game to West Delaware. The Golden Eagles have won seven games since, including a 27-6 victory over the Hawks in the Class 3A state quarterfinals Friday night at Brown Field in Manchester.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association football playoffs have reached the state quarterfinals. Teams across the state in all classes will compete for a chance to play at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls next week.

High school football teams play in the Iowa High School Athletic Association playoffs. All seven classes will compete in the Round of 16 for a spot in the state quarterfinals.
Iowa’s men’s basketball team played No. 4 Iowa State to the wire Thursday night before losing by four. As it did two weeks ago after a loss to nationally ranked Michigan State, the Hawkeyes were able to get an immediate bounce back, stomping Western Michigan, 91-51, Sunday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Those infusions of zest proved to be fleeting, however. The Cyclones trailed the Panthers (2-8) for more than five minutes in the first half before a Milan Momcilovic 3-pointer capped a 16-5 run that gave them a 44-28 edge at the break.
