Parents of the couple are Dave and Annette Cowger of Fenton, MI, and Mark and Julie Elias of Cedar Rapids.

The couple are 2012 graduates of the University of Minnesota. The bride earned a Master's degree at Emory University and is employed as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The groom earned two Master's Degrees from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and is employed as a healthcare consultant with Pershing Yoakley & Associates.

The couple honeymooned in Croatia and make their home in Atlanta, GA.
